5 Tips to keep your yard looking nice during the spring and summer months
If you’re in North Carolina, keeping your yard green through spring and summer really comes down to working with the climate, not against it. The heat and humidity can be rough, especially mid-summer.
Here’s a more real-life, summed-up version:
Basically, don’t water every day—just water a few times a week but do it deeply, preferably early in the morning. NC gets hot, so deeper roots help your grass survive those dry, scorching stretches.
Also, don’t cut your grass too short. A lot of people do this thinking it helps, but it actually makes things worse in the heat. Keep it a little taller so it can hold moisture and shade itself.
Fertilizing helps, but timing matters here. Feed your lawn in the spring and maybe early summer, but once it gets really hot (like July/August), ease up or you can stress it out.
Our soil in NC can be clay-heavy, so aerating your lawn once a year makes a big difference. It helps water and nutrients actually get down into the roots instead of just sitting on top.
And honestly, the best defense against weeds down here is just thick, healthy grass. If you stay on top of things early in the season, weeds don’t stand much of a chance later.
That’s really the gist—water smart, don’t scalp it, feed it at the right time, and take care of the soil.
